Did You Know...
The first JeffCo officer slain in the line of duty was in Arvada!
Clarence Bunch Fugate: Killed in the line of duty October 17, 1940 in Arvada, Colorado
Undersheriff Fugate went to Lee's Tavern in Arvada with intentions of arresting Jack Carleton, the bartender, who earlier in the evening shot a man in the bar for flirting with his wife. Fugate was accompanied by two deputy sheriffs, who stood by the doorway while the undersheriff entered the empty tavern and confronted Carleton. During a brief interview relating to the location of Carleton's gun, the suspect told Fugate that his gun was in the kitchen. Fugate searched the kitchen briefly, found no gun, and returned to the bar where Carleton was waiting. Without warning, Carleton opened fire on Fugate, killing the undersheriff. The two deputy sheriffs returned fire on Carleton, wounding him five times before taking him into custody. Carleton recovered from his wounds and was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

If you do, Robby Ferrufino Park is the place to be on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 10 a.m. for the 10th Annual Kite Festival!
Kite enthusiasts, young and old, are invited to join the kite competition with Foothills Kite Club members judging kites based on the smallest, largest, highest and most visually appealing. The top four winners in each category will carry home trophies with awards going to participants in two age categories: 1) 10 years and younger 2) 11 years and older.

It's been said that Scotland's greatest export has been her people. Tartan Day was originally conceived as a day to celebrate Scotland's cultural and historic contributions to the world. We invite all who have embraced the Tartan to join us in celebrating family, community, nation, heritage, and the human need for connection. On Saturday, April 14th in Olde Town learn about Scottish/Irish/Celtic History from various Clans. Enjoy performances by Bagpipe Bands, Rocky Mountain Highland Dancers, & Historical Re-enactors. When young Jeremy Jacob and his exceptional digging skills are recruited by Captain Braid Beard for treasure burying purposes, Jeremy thinks the pirate life is for him. Until he realizes that the simple things in life, like a kiss and a warm tucking in at night are those that are most important. Set sail for a hilarious and toughening journey as Jeremy learns that the most important things in life are worth more than buried treasure. A story of adventure and finding one’s own heart – a path that can’t be found on any treasure map.
The HOTA annual meeting was held on Wednesday Nov 16th where 2 of our fantastic community partners were honored. We would like to thank again the Arvada Festivals Commission and The City of Arvada Traffic Division for their continued support of Olde Town.
