Festival of Scarecrows

Town Square will become a pumpkin patch and scarecrows of all shapes and sizes will stand guard throughout Olde Town. Bring costumed kids for the parade, navigate the corn maze, find a perfect pumpkin and be sure to vote for your favorite scarecrow!

Please bring a donation of canned food/non-perishables for the Rising Church Food Bank!

Giant Pumpkins to Haunt Olde Town
The Arvada Gardeners will be having a Giant Pumpkin Contest in conjunction with the Festival of Scarecrows on October 7th in the Olde Town Square in Historic Olde Town Arvada. Entries will be accepted from 10:030 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. and judging begins at 1:30 p.m. Prizes will be given to the three largest pumpkins in adults (13+) and kids (12 and under) divisions. Ribbons and Gift Certificates will be awarded to 1st ($50), 2nd ($30) and 3rd ($20) place in each division.
A new Carved Pumpkin Contest is being added this year.
Carved Pumpkin Contest Rules
Pumpkins must be carved (colors may be added – colored pencil, paint, magic markers, etc) and completed before they can be entered in the contest.
Maximum pumpkin size is 2’x2’x2’. That size is approximate.
Only parts from one pumpkin may be used.
No foreign objects are to be used. Ex: toothpicks, glue, yarn etc.
No flames or pyrotechnics may be used.
One entry per person.
The judge’s decision is final.
All pumpkin entries need to be on site before 11:00AM.
Pumpkin themes deemed inappropriate by the Arvada Gardeners Organization or the judges cannot be entered into the contest.
Age Groups:
12 and under
13 to 17 and
18 and above
Trophies, ribbons and certificates will be awarded for 1st, 2nd & 3rd in each age group. A Special grand Prize will be awarded for the “Peoples’ Choice” winner.
At 1:00pm local Master Pumpkin Carver John Bardeen will be on hand to give a demonstration on pumpkin carving and then judge the entries and present the awards.
Arvada Gardeners Booth
Besides the Giant Pumpkin Contest and the Carved Pumpkin Contest, the Arvada Gardens (a 501c3) will be accepting donations from event goers. for gourds, cornstalks, mini-pumpkins, decorative (Indian) corn, dried organic herbs, various organic specialty garlic, hand made soap, and some food items.
Arvada Gardeners will provide free, festive gifts to kids at their “Cultivator Wheel of Chance.”
Also visit the pumpkin patch at the Arvada Community Garden at 57th and Garrison for lots of good sized pumpkins and many mini-pumpkins and other festive items. Stop by in October during open hours. Monday-Friday 7:30am to 6:00 pm, Saturday & Sunday 8am to noon, while supplies last.
